We will discuss composition, technique, principles of light and shade and a range of other painting related topics. Almost all of the lessons will apply to any medium or subject matter but the focus will be specific to still life in oil. Demonstrations will be done with the intent of illustrating how to handle specific problems rather than producing an entire finished painting and during the class students will be encouraged to adopt a similar attitude with an emphasis on learning and study. Previous experience in mixing color is not necessary. It will be 5 days of intense concentration—but fun too. Bring a sense of humor.
There will be demonstrations as well as painting and drawing from models. Each student will receive plenty of personal attention, including discussions of goals for their future work. Students will be encouraged to develop and attain their artistic goals of personal expression.

This made for smooth transitions in modelling and made for a more realistic picture. It has since become the medium of choice for most artists from the 16th Century till today.
Artist's that paint in oils are going to find one of the broadest color and tonal ranges of any medium, and unlike most water based products, will not change in colour intensity or value after drying. In other words, what you see is what you get!
